Teaching Philosophy

My goal as an engineering instructor is to lead students to an understanding of the technical material contained in my courses and, at the same time, give them the tools needed to successfully analyze the systems and devices that we encounter.  In these regards, my classes are not simply a series of cookbook instructions in solving problems but always include at least some of the theory behind the systems that we study. In addition, I see my goal not to “weed out” weak students, but to lead as many students as possible to an acceptable understanding of the material while maintaining a level of rigor that will ensure that students who do complete the courses will be able to function as working engineers.
