The Horticulture program at the Arkansas Tech University Career Center covers a broad
field of careers, including agribusiness, horticulture, ag-science and leadership.
Agribusiness prepares students for the business world through entrepreneurship, banking,
record keeping and personal finances. Horticulture provides training in plant physiology
and development, greenhouse management, turf management and landscaping. Ag-science
provides career preparation in biotechnology, animal science, forestry and natural
resources. Leadership prepares the student for work in any field they wish to enter
with training in leadership styles, oral and written communication, parliamentary
procedure and FFA activities.
We provide a wide variety of learning experiences that include classroom instruction
and hands-on activities. These experiences are designed to give students exposure
to entry-level skills for a career in agriculture. The opportunity for an advanced
agricultural education is tremendous with institutions such as Arkansas Tech University
offering further training in areas covered at the Career Center.
The Career Center Horticulture program is designed to provide a foundation education
to prepare students to enter any agricultural area they wish to pursue. The agriculture
industry is the largest in the United States, and this employment field falls short
of filling its professional career openings by as much at 10 to 14 percent each year.
This statistic provides students with a great opportunity to pursue their chosen career
in agriculture. So come join the agricultural field to help feed our nation!
Students who complete this program of study offered at the Career Center may receive
a Certificate of Proficiency in viticulture.
