Middle Level Education, May 2010
My journey at Arkansas Tech University (ATU) began in the fall of 2006. I headed off to school with hopes and dreams of having the best college experience. Tech did not disappoint! I chose Arkansas Tech University because it was one of the few schools in the state with a Middle School Education Program. As soon as I arrived on campus, I was welcomed by other students ready to help me move in, and plenty of freshman icebreaker activities. My classes were enjoyable and my professors were very approachable when I met any challenges. After a few weeks, I decided to join student organizations such as the ATU Math Club, Choir, Collegiate Middle Level Association, and Delta Zeta. Those groups provided me with a sense of belonging and a strong support system for the rest of my college career.
Arkansas Tech University has a great Middle School Education Program under the leadership of Dr. V. Carole Smith. I am confident that my training more than prepared me for my career in education. After graduating in May of 2010, I was hired to teach Pre-AP Mathematics at a Middle School in El Dorado, Arkansas. I remained there for two years. While in El Dorado, I was named “Best New Teacher of the Year” for my middle school and “January 2012 Employee of the Month” for the entire district. In May of 2012, I married my ATU college sweetheart, Brad McBride, and moved to the Little Rock area. Now, I am teaching Seventh Grade Math and Science for the Bryant School District.
My four years at Tech helped shape me as a person and prepared me for success in my career. I gained valuable knowledge for my profession, made lasting friendships, and met the man of my dreams. I would recommend Arkansas Tech to anyone!
