Physical Education, December 2010Ashley Camp

I graduated from ATU in December of 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. I have always had an interest in Physical Education as well as mentoring adolescents.  While attending Tech, I had the opportunity to be a member of the Golden Suns Volleyball Team. Being part of a collegiate team helped me grow in many areas including dedication and teamwork both on the court and in the classroom.

Prior to graduation, I completed many observation hours, two portfolios, and my internship in Morrilton, AR. I had the opportunity to work with elementary students as well as high school students while student teaching.  During my six weeks at the high school, I was able to work with the volleyball team.  After completing my student teaching I was confident that I had chosen the right profession.  My career path was definitely in coaching.  The following semester I was a substitute teacher in the Conway Public School District. Substitute teaching helped me to prepare for many situations and also to build my confidence with all grade levels. I also gained experience by coaching a club volleyball team.

During the summer of 2011, I was offered a position at Beebe Public School District to teach 7th/8th grade girls P.E. and coach senior high volleyball. I felt privileged to be offered a head coaching position so soon out of college. I am proud to say I am an Arkansas Tech Alumni and value the experience and education I received at Tech that prepared me for the teacher and coach I am today.
