Educational Leadership, 1999
Completing my bachelor's degree in Secondary Social Studies Education at ATU in 1990 set me on a path I had not anticipated. My undergraduate experience prepared me to teach, which I always felt would be my life's work. It has been a privilege to teach many of the fine students at Russellville High School who later completed their degrees at ATU, going on to exciting professions and careers. After several years teaching, an opening developed at Russellville Junior High School for an Assistant Principal. As I had gone on to complete a master's degree in Educational Leadership at ATU in 1999, I was able to successfully apply for that position, gaining exposure to the administrative side of education. My position as Assistant Principal prepared me for the position of Principal of Russellville Junior High School from 2003-2010, and eventually Assistant Superintendent of Russellville Schools.
Obtaining a specialist degree in Executive Leadership Studies from Arkansas Tech University will allow me to continue further with a career in education administration. I have never lost my love of teaching. The ability to continue my education locally enables me to implement educational programming in the community, enriching students' lives, and bringing opportunities to them through knowledge gained as a student at ATU.
