Invest in Yourself Workshop Series Returns

10.02.09

The “Invest in Yourself Series” of workshops returns this fall to Arkansas Tech.  The annual series allows students to perfect skills needed to help them land a job after graduation.

Dr. David Boop, director of career services at Arkansas Tech, says the workshops help students learn the skills, as it’s likely they'll change careers multiple times during their life.  He adds, “Learning how to look for jobs and managing your career is a skill, and it’s one that can easily be overlooked or forgotten.”

The first workshop will take place Monday, October 12, and the workshop covers interviewing skills and resumes.

The complete schedule for the workshop series is as follows:

  • Interviewing Skills and Resume Workshop-- Doc Bryan Room 242 on Monday, October 12, at 3:00 p.m. or Thursday, October 15, at 3:00 p.m.
  • Professional Image and Interview Process-- Chambers East Dining Hall on Monday, October 26, at 3:00 p.m.
  • Business Etiquette and Conversation-- Williamson Hall Dining Room on Monday, November 19, at 5:30 p.m.

The workshop series is offered each fall and spring at Arkansas Tech, but the series is limited to about 75 students.

Boop says the series is limited to allow students to receive “personal attention” on various skills.  He adds, “By limiting the number of students at each workshop, we’re able to ensure students receive the individual help they need, which allows them to be more successful.”

The fee to attend the workshop series is $15, which covers the meal served at the Williamson Dining Hall.  To find out more about the series, visit the Norman Career Services website.
