Major General (United States Army Retired) William E. Harmon spoke to Professor Tracy Cole’s Business Ethics class about ethics and leadership on September 1, 2009. Mr. Harmon talked about the importance of family members and other role models in his own life who helped him to develop high standards and a strong sense of integrity. He then emphasized the importance of each individual’s personal values and standards in building an ethical culture at the corporate level. Mr. Harmon drew upon his experiences as Chief Technology and Chief Information Officer of Perot Systems Corporation to provide the students with examples of ethical and unethical conduct and the consequences of each. Finally, Mr. Harmon encouraged the students to seek out positive professional role models to learn from as they begin their own careers.
