Structural Geology Field Trip, Fall 1997

Nice mesoscopic recumbent fold behind fast food restaurant in Hot Springs where we ate breakfast (was it Wendy's?)

Left: Two lamprophyre dikes cut contact between the Arkansas Novaculite and the overlying Stanley Formation in abandoned part of the Jones Mill quarry. (Contact is about 2/3 of the way up from water level. Right: A nice moderately inclined anitform in hornfelsed Stanley Fm on highwall of the quarry.

Awsome road cut! Great structure! US-270 Bypass @ McCleod exit, Hot Springs, AR.

Sandstone dike (nearly horizontal, passes just over Jason's head) cuts through steeply inclined sandstones at Blakely Mtn dam.

Left: Beautiful folds in sedimentary rocks of the cut on the west end of Blakely Mtn dam! Right: Fall is a great time to take this field trip. View from east end of the dam, looking west.

Below: Load cast in sandstone over shale. Stanley Fm, Stop 11.

Below: Plumose ornamentation on joint surface in sandstone of the Stanley Fm.

Folds in the Arkansas Novaculite at Caddo Gap.
