From year to year field trips associated with Dr. Kline's classes may vary in detail. Some examples of field trips that have been conducted in the past are listed below. You may see itineraries for these selected field trips, along with some photos, by clicking the appropriate hyperlink (in blue). Of course, if you want to use the field trip itinerary information for visiting field sites yourself, you may do so. Please be respectful of any property owners that might be involved and judicious about what samples you take.
A trip to see a sampling of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks in Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.
A trip to see igneous rocks in the Wichita Mountains of Oklahoma, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks in the Arbuckle Mountains of Oklahoma, sedimentary rocks of the Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas, and Cretaceous sediments and igneous rocks in Arkansas.
A trip to see the structural geology of the Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas.
A trip to the 3M Quarry, the Mauldin Mountain wavellite locality, and Ochus Stanley's quartz crystal mine.
Three field trips to see outcrops that provide field evidence for integral components of the interpreted geologic history of the southern midcontinent from the early Paleozoic through the Teritiary.
A trip to see the geology of the Paleozoic shelf-facies rocks of the southern midcontinent as expressed in the Ozark Plateaus of northern Arkansas.
A short trip to a super-interesting site in the Arkoma foreland basin.
A trip to see deep-basin-facies rocks that flanked the Paleozoic southern midcontinent, more rocks of the Arkoma foreland basin, deformation structures of the Late Paleozoic Ouachita orogeny, Cretaceous alkaline magmatic rocks, Cretaceous onlap sediments, and Tertiary offlap sediments. These features are seen in the region in and adjacent to the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas and Oklahoma.
To see monitor well drilling for defining the subsurface geology and groundwater hydrogeology of an area being studied for expansion of the Brushy Island Landfill.
